February is not my favourite month of the year. It’s cold and often very dreary. I’m sure the
lack of sunlight due to shorter days adds to my dislike of the month. Add to that the fact that
my birthday is this month. Now many folks, including myself, say having birthdays is a good
thing. It’s not great when they stop. It would be nice to think a year older, a year wiser. Not
sure that is always true. More determined would be a better phrase to describe me.
Determined to enjoy the years I have left. Determined to remember the good times I have
experienced in my life. Determined to make a difference. How does one make a difference?
That’s a very good question. Helping others is at the top of my list of things that make a
difference.
My work at the Capitol Arts Market helps other artists, those interested in the arts
and makes our community a better place to live. Offering classes to share my knowledge with
people who want to expand their skills in the arts is very gratifying for me. Learning from my
students is always a positive side effect of teaching a class.
Showing my work, I like to think, adds to the life experience of people who take the time to
look at it. Everyone sees art through their own lens. Comments and feed back are always
appreciated. Currently, my work is included in a traveling show called Colour With A U. The
show will be on display in Orillia from February through April before it travels on to another
venue. The flier for the show is here if you are interested.
It is with determination that I face another February. This one without the love of my life. In
memory of Bob, I have created the piece Hugs From Bob. It is made of fabric from his shirts.
The scene is from a picture that I took on our last trip together to Portugal in January and
February 2020. The picture of Bob was taken at a café in Silves, Portugal. It was our last trip
together and it was memorable. My memories sustain me. This piece is not for sale but it will
be on display at the Capitol Arts Market for the month of February in the small gallery in
the All About Love show.
Enjoy the day it is a gift.
