I have decided to write a Blog Post each month. It has been difficult for all of us the past two years of Covid. This is another way for me to communicate with the outside world and share my thoughts and musings. I will keep them short and hopefully, interesting.
A lot of friends and family comment that I am very creative. To me being creative is a bit like having to breathe. I am not happy unless I am doing something creative with my mind and my hands. Crocheting while watching TV is the only way to go in my world. It’s a human basic desire for most creatives to do that thing that fulfills their need. We are born this way. The child who loves to draw and build things with whatever they can find have an innate need that they must fulfill. My son Adam is the perfect example of this. He was drawing as soon as he could hold a pencil. When we traveled the first thing, he put in his suitcase was his sketchbook and pencils. He has followed his path and works in the world of creatives. Check out CarvelCreative.com to see the amazing things he and his partners build for our world.
Some creatives can find their path and stay the course working in one medium all of their life. Unfortunately, that is not my path. Satisfaction for me is found by constantly looking for new things to try and new materials and techniques to incorporate into my work. This makes for a rather full studio. Lately, creating collages has opened my studio to a vast quantity and variety of materials. My studio is bursting with panels, paints, mediums, papers, inks and assorted found objects. You can find me painting, printing, cutting, tearing and gluing to my hearts content. The results have been very satisfying. My next step is to incorporate all these techniques on fabric.
An online course with Ana Buzzalino from Calgary has me well on the way to creating collages with fabric and paper. Building on my knowledge and developing new works that say something about my world and life experiences is paramount to me. Nothing profound or earth shattering. Finding and celebrating the beauty in our world every day is my goal. Join me on this journey and follow my posts each month.
